Or is it? If you look in the stores, you’ll find a variety of holiday themed products – Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hannukah, Christmas, and on, and on, and on. Marketing trends don’t allow us to focus on the present holiday. We are asked to forget about today’s joys and only want for something else. A friend calls this part of the year “Hallothanksmas,” because the holidays all seem to drift together into one ugly ball of spending chaos.
It is important to remember the “now” of our lives; to pay attention to the thoughts we are putting out into the Universe. If we are never satisfied with what we have, we will never be satisfied with what we will have. Like attracts like. We continue a circle of spending, trying to grasp a vision of what the future could be – then when the future comes we don’t pay attention to it. We are off to focus on something else that isn’t here yet.
The future does matter.
But the present creates the future. Your thoughts and decisions today create your thoughts and decisions moving forward, just as your past experiences have impacted your present-day circumstances. Gratitude is attitude.
This crone loves Halloween! I dress up every year. But I tend to be a minimalist when it comes to decorating; partly because I live alone, and partly because I am frugal. I love to celebrate being with my loved ones and sharing meals more than celebrating the bling.
Ok, go ahead. Call me Scrooge. It’s not my business what you think of me. It is my business to intend the right things for myself – to manage my money instead of letting my money manage me. My priority is to create a wealthy life that will give me more free time to visit my grown children and other loved ones, and to experience the wonders of this amazing planet. A blow-up snowman in my yard won’t get me there.
